It is open 24 hours and is located in Toronto's theatre district along with a mother load of night clubs and bars. On the way out the door a couple guys passed by me reeking of stale beer. They had obviously not been to sleep and they were looking pretty bad. On my way into the coffee shop a homeless guy opened the door for me as though he were expecting a tip. He had been drinking. Once inside, I stood in line and gazed across the room at a row of tables, each filled with twenty-somethings who had closed the nightclubs, all looking a little rough around the edges; as though their buzzes were wearing off. Many had fallen asleep right there at the table. Everyone standing in line with me smelled of cigarette smoke and alcohol. Nobody I ran into on that trip to get a cup of coffee had a smile on their face, and virtually every person I walked past was suffering from some degree of misery, all caused by alcohol. They each spent their day in regret. I spent mine at a baseball game with my friends and family. I don't miss drinking. Not at all.

So much pain for such a short buzz. And some of us didn't even really get the buzz!!
Great post Shark.

You know some of those images describe exactly how I felt towards the end of my drinking. When I got drunk, I often felt like a prisoner in my own body. Why did I do it? Because I was addicted.

Love the images, they are excellent.
It truly is amazing how much drinking is glamourised (I am speaking from a UK perspective). In particular I was interested to see the beautiful woman relaxing in her beautiful bathroom, with her beautiful glass of wine. This happens in many advertisments over here. The other classic ones are sofa companies, a beautiful couple sitting on a beautiful sofa with the obligatory glass of wine.
Alcohol is endemic over here, can you imagine selling a sofa or a bathroom by having someone enjoying a nice cigarette while relaxing on their new sofa?

Good point Jags. I've noticed that even though most people around me drink, I'm meeting more and more people who don't anymore. I think eventually drinking will be like smoking, where it will become less and less socially acceptable. Then liquor ads will go the way of the Marlboro man.

Just seems like double standards to me. Anyway, why should a sofa company be allowed to use the illusion of alcohol to sell stuff, its mad. And people wonder why so many people drink.

I truly hope that I live to see the day when it does become less socially acceptable. Why have we made poisoning ourselves acceptable? It is abject stupidity!!!

Notice the middle bottle has written on it, "Alcohol is a poison. So is strychnine. So is arsenic. It ranks with these agents."
Lovely but common knowledge. So why are people consuming it? Why is it legal?
