Hello!
I have joined this forum after reading so many of your stories for the last few days. Many of them brought me to tears when I saw my own misery writ large. Thank you.
I have new hope and inspiration that I can get the monkey off my back. Thank you.

For the next few days or 2 weeks at most I'm going to really look at the whens and whys of it. I'm not highly stressed, and I HATE being drunk. (takes an awful lot to get there) I just like vodka in my water. Give me the flavour without the alcohol and I'll be reformed today! I think.
Also, figure out why it feels like leaving a friend.
I suppose this is a divorce; I hate to even think that word because I actually do have a great marriage. We will be even better dry. We'll divorce the poison, never each other.
Lovely blizzard here in Edmonton this weekend.
Thank you for the welcome :)
BTW: any advice about detox? I do about 18 oz per day of vodka/water. Is it safe to go cold?

You might like to read Drinking: A Love Story by Carolyn Knapp. She described her breakup with alcohol as a divorce (it's a woman's story, but lots of good stuff in there).
Glad you are here. :)

"Personally, fear of withdrawal kept me drinking in ever increasing quantities for years. When I finally quit, detox wasn't as bad as any one of the hangovers I'd suffered. Who knew? "
1)Exactly.
2) I hope
