Up to you my friend. I had horrible acid reflux. After so much research and so many trials, I found the one thing that helped.

Not for the faint of heart, but it cured me. No shit. I guess its a combination of things. Here is goes.

Single serving eating. One plate, small portions, simple items, simple seasonings. Ginger root. Buy it at the store. Take a root and cut it into 5 small coins and get a pot of 4 cups of water to a boil. Once it boils, put the coins in and reduce heat to low for 20 minutes uncovered. Then take the coins out and pour into a container. Let cool. Store in fridge for up to 2 weeks and drink with water or small drinks.

Next. Dr. Natura. Yup, I did the herbal colon cleanse. You will not believe me, but my acid reflux went away almost immediately and stayed away. After 3 weeks on the program, I was passing some weird stuff. But, it was all good and now I'm thankful I did it. Dr.Natura.com Don't be scared, it works.

Watch what you eat, eat slowly
http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02882/acid-reflux

i had it for a little bit - never consistently, but it seems like its something that if you don't watch it it spirals - i found the DLG recommended in the link above helped me. but mainly i think it's one of those lifestyle things they give a catch all term to and it can have many different causes.

I think you're right about meds -so many docotors perscribe things to fix symptoms not causes.

Hey Holly. Bad stomach here. Wicked acid reflux. I've damaged my esophaugas (omg I don't know how to spell that) but I damaged it really bad from alcohol and then I avoided taking my px meds which only made it worse. I HATE taking px meds but finally gave in. They started me on Nexium (little purple pill) but it did nothing. Now I take one 20mg Pariet once a day, two a day if I dare try to eat acidic or spicey foods.

I would love to get off them but for the last year I've caved and I take them faithfully.

To get off them my doc said I needed to:
- quit smoking
- eat more slowly and ensure I'm chewing my food to the fullest
Footnote - stomach specialist also said quit drinking but I already had

My naturopath lady wants me to try one of her remedies but for now, I'll stick with the px. Once I quit smoking I'll give it a shot. I don't know what's all in her concoction but I do know it's loaded with pineapple. Everyone thinks pineapple!!! It's SO acidic !! But it's not. It's pure alkaline. Try some fresh pineapple and see how it works for you. In a pinch I use canned. I also "graze" eat. Never a big meal. I have to give my tummy something to do so I graze all day. When I don't and skip meals then eat when hungry...it's pure pain.

Really recommend a book: PH Balance (can't remember author let me know if you want to know it). Very very good information about acid vs. alkaline. Don't eat fruit with meals. Eat fruit 1/2 hr before a meal as fruit needs one type of stomach acid to digest it whereby all other foods need the other type of stomach acid. I swear by that little tip. Another that saves my butt is I always eat my salad AFTER my meal is complete. It helps with digestion also thus creating less acid, less reflux, less gerd, etc

Hope you find some good solutions.
